Botox & Dysport
There are two drugs that are used to improve wrinkles by preventing muscle contraction. They are Botox and Dysport. Dysport is more effective since it lasts for a longer period of time than Botox. For that reason Dysport is the preferred injectable of choice for use by Dr Shahar.
It is used to minimize wrinkles in the forehead, glabella (angry lines) and crow’s feet around the eyes (smile lines). Dysport not only improves wrinkles, but can elevate the eyebrow to a certain degree. Any physician who uses Botox or Dysport must be familiar not only with the anatomy of the facial muscles but also with the effect of the injection on each muscle. Administering both injectables is an exact science and an art.
Although the effect of Botox and Dysport is temporary (3-6 months), over time, after repeated treatments it may eliminate the wrinkles! Dr Shahar evaluates each patient on an individual basis and determines exactly where and how much of either Botox or Dysport is needed in order to achieve optimal and natural results.
Juviderm, Restylan and Radiesse
There are many fillers available in Europe and the USA, but only a select few are FDA approved. Most fillers are based on hyaluronic acid which naturally exists in the body and are used to reduce the appearance of wrinkles.
Radiesse, which also contains natural calcium (hydroxyapetite) is a good filler to replace loss of volume. It is injected deep under the skin and lasts for 1-1.5 years. For example, for the nasolabial fold wrinkles, Juviderm or Restylane are the preferred injectibles.
However, for deep depression lines in the nasolabial fold, Radiesse is needed to fill out the depression. For reducing the appearance of deep lines AND wrinkles, both are prescribed (Juviderm and Radiesse) to achieve optimal results. The deeper the lines, the more injections you will need. Dr Shahar will answer all your questions about fillers and the best approach that will benefit you the most and help achieve a natural, younger look.
